In Loving Memory of Distinguished Toastmaster Gloria Smith Willams

Beloved Toastmaster

January 1946 - September 4, 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of DTM Gloria Smith, Past District Governor, a devoted leader, mentor, and beloved friend whose impact on Toastmasters and the people around her will not be forgotten.

Gloria joined Toastmasters in 1990 and remained a passionate advocate for the organization throughout her life. In her own words, “Toastmasters is an outstanding organization, which helps members develop and hone their skills in speaking and leadership. I am proud to have been a member since 1990.”

Her commitment to that mission was evident in everything she did. Gloria served with distinction as District Governor in 2002, guiding and encouraging members and leaders throughout the District and leaving a legacy that continued long after her year of service ended.

Those who had the privilege of hearing Gloria speak will remember not only her words, but the extraordinary warmth and joy she brought to every stage. She often shared her beautiful singing voice during speeches and gatherings, and her presence had a way of making an occasion feel just a little brighter.

But Gloria’s greatest legacy may be the way she made people feel. She possessed the rare gift of making a new acquaintance feel like an old friend. She encouraged people, welcomed them, believed in them, and helped countless Toastmasters find confidence in their own voices.

Her leadership, kindness, laughter, music, and generous spirit will be deeply missed.

We mourn the loss of an extraordinary Toastmaster and a dear friend, while celebrating a life that made our District—and all of us who knew her—better.

Rest in peace, Gloria. Your voice may be silent, but your legacy lives on in every voice you helped find its strength.
