Qualifications
Ideally, Area Directors have served as a Club President or Vice President of Education. However, interested members who have served in other officer roles will also be considered. To serve as an Area Director, you must be a paid member of a District 55 club in good standing.
Responsibilities
Provide Guidance
As an Area Director, you'll lead the Area by serving the needs of clubs. You'll contact Club Presidents monthly to discuss their performance in the Distinguished Club Program and follow up on any previous items. You'll also discuss District training and events with the Area clubs.
Lead the Area Council
As the Area Council chair, the Area Director holds at least two meetings per year. During these meetings, the Area Director discusses each club's plans and goals in the Distinguished Club Program, reviews attendance at club officer training, and evaluates and assesses Area Director candidates. This helps to provide appointment recommendations to the District Director or elect the following year's Area Director, in accordance with the District Council's decision.
Make Club Visits
As an Area Director, you'll visit each club at least twice a year to fulfill the Area Recognition Program requirements. During these visits, you'll assess the club's membership and leadership's willingness to grow, evaluate how well the club adheres to the Moments of Truth, and submit the Area Director's Club Visit Report online. While you're encouraged to visit your respective clubs more than twice a year, these visits are a great way to ensure that each club is on track to achieve their goals.
Ensure Area Progress
As an Area Director, you'll participate in Area Director training provided by the District and report regularly to the Division Director and District leaders on Area progress. It's your responsibility to motivate and assist each club in the Area to become Distinguished, and you'll coordinate Area speech contests, with the option to ask the Division Director for assistance in planning.
