2014-2015 Promotions and Awards Programs

Education / Members

Star and Elite Awards: Members who complete activities in Marketing, Education, and Leadership will receive a lapel pin.


FROM: District 55
DATES: July 1, 2014 - June 15, 2015
RECIPIENTS: Members
DESCRIPTION: Two separate award offerings
  1. Star Award: Complete any five activities in one of three categories and receive a Star lapel pin
  2. Elite Award: Complete three activities in each of the three categories, nine activities total, and receive an Elite lapel pin.

Note: Members can earn a maximum of one Star Award per category, and a maximum of one Elite award. 


The three categories are Marketing, Education, and Leadership.

Marketing Activities
1) Sponsor a new member into your club
2) Provide a lead to charter a new club
3) Serve as a club sponsor or club mentor
4) Serve as a successful club coach
5) Organize or support a club open house or membership drive
6) Attend a marketing workshop or coach/sponsor mentor training
7) Organize a Speechcraft program or a Youth Leadership Program


Education Activities
1) Be a club officer and attend District-sponsored officer training
2) Conduct one module from Better Speaker Series to one of your clubs
3) Earn one Communication award (CC, ACB, ACS, ACG)
4) Earn one Leadership award (CL, ALB, ALS, DTM)
5) Present a manual speech or a module from the Better Speaker Series to a club in which you are not a member
6) Attend two education sessions at either or both District Fall or Spring conferences
7) Serve as a volunteer at an Area, Division or District Speech Contest

Leadership Activities

1) Be a club officer and participate in completing the Club Success Plan for submission to the Area Governor
2) Conduct one module from the Successful Club Series or the Leadership Excellence Series
3) Complete your High Performance Leadership (HPL) project or serve on an HPL Guidance Committee (project must be completed)
4) Serve on a District Committee (Conference, Education & Training, Realignment, etc.)
5) Serve as a District Officer and attend required training or serve as an assistant area or division governor
6) Serve as a trainer at a District-sponsored Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) or Club Officer Training (COT) event
7) Serve as a Contest Chair or Chief Judge at an Area, Division, or District Speech Contest

HOW TO CLAIM: When you have completed all the requirements for an award (five activities in a category or three activities in each of the three categories), submit the award on-line.

Speechcraft Promotion: Clubs conducting a Speechcraft program can receive up to $30 reimbursement from the District to cover program expenses.

RECIPIENTS: Clubs
DESCRIPTION: Two separate award offerings
  • Clubs conducting a Speechcraft program can receive up to $30 reimbursement from the District to cover program expenses.
  • Clubs conducting a Youth Leadership program can receive up to $30 reimbursement from the District to cover program expenses.
HOW TO CLAIM:
  • Club officers determine when to conduct the program(s) and what will be done to make it a success.
  • A club member sends an email to Lieutenant Governor Marketing (LGM) Amy Espinoza (d55lgm@tmd55.org) to sign up. Include in the email what you plan to purchase and submit for reimbursement.
  • After the Program is completed, a club member sends LGM Amy the agenda, a listing of participants, and a filled out reimbursement request / voucher form. by June 20, 2015
  • You will need to provide original hard copies of ALL receipts: no receipts - no reimbursement. Mailing instructions for the receipts will be provided after you submit the completed voucher form. We are a non-profit organization and cannot reimburse any taxes.

Membership Building

Open House Promotion: Active Clubs holding an Open House can receive up to a $50 reimbursement for approved expenses

RECIPIENTS: Established Clubs
DESCRIPTION: Active Clubs holding an Open House can receive a reimbursement for approved expenses.
  • Phase I: up to $50
  • Phase II: up to $25
  • Phase III: up to $50
  • Phase IV: up to $25
Examples:
  • Refreshments from a grocery store or restaurant (e.g. pizza)
  • Signs
  • Colorful agendas
  • Toastmaster products to promote your club or to give away as prizes

HOW TO CLAIM:
  1. Club officers determine when to have an Open House and what will be done to make it a success.

New Club Chartering Promotion: Clubs that charter can select one or more items as a welcome gift from the District. BONUS: Clubs that charter before March 31, and within 30 days of their demonstration meeting, may choose an additional item.

  • Demo Dash Promotion: Clubs that charter within 30 days of the demo meeting will receive three prizes.

  • Clubs that charter will receive one prize from the list below.
  • Demo Dash Promotion: Clubs that charter within 30 days of the demo meeting will receive three prizes.
Phase III
  • Clubs that charter will receive one prize from the list below.

Form 1 Charter Challenge: Prospective clubs that have submitted their Application to Organize (Form 1) and hold an Open House can receive up to a $50 reimbursement for approved expenses.

R.I.S.E. Up Early Bird Challenge: Clubs that renew their dues by September 15 and or March 15 will receive an Early Bird Banner Ribbon and a $50 in Gift Certificates

  • Part 1: September 15, 2014
  • Part 2: March 15, 2015
RECIPIENTS: Established Clubs
DESCRIPTION:
  • Part 1: Clubs that renew dues for 75% of their September 1st membership (minimum of 8 members paid) by September 15th for the October 1st renewals will receive an Early Bird Banner Ribbon and $50 in Toastmasters International Gift Certificates.
  • Part 2: Clubs that renew dues for 75% of their March 1st membership (minimum of 8 members paid) by March 15th for the April 1st renewals will receive an Early Bird Banner Ribbon and $50 in Toastmasters International Gift Certificates.

Super 7 Award: Clubs that have seven officers trained in either in the Summer or Winter season at a District-sponsored training event will receive the Super Seven Club Banner Ribbon and a set of officer pins or $50 in Gift Certificates.

  • Phase 2: December 1 - Febraury 28, 2015
RECIPIENTS: Clubs
DESCRIPTION: Clubs that have seven officers trained in either the first training cycle (Phase 1) OR the second training cycle (Phase 2) at District-sponsored training events will receive the Super Seven Club Banner Ribbon and a set of officer pins or $50.00 in Toastmasters International Gift Certificates. Only one prize per club per Toastmaster year.

Surf the Net to Success Challenge: Clubs that have at minimum of four officers find specific items on the Internet between will receive a $25 Gift Certificate

DESCRIPTION: After four club officers submit their Challenge forms, one form per officer, the club will receive a $25 Toastmasters International Gift Certificate.
HOW TO CLAIM: AUTOMATIC once all the officers have submitted the forms

Golden Gavel Meeting Award: Clubs that conduct a truly exceptional club meeting with a District Officer present can earn a prestigious banner ribbon, recognition at the Fall and Spring Conference, and golden gavel pins for the members who participated in the meeting. The criteria is VERY CHALLENGING.

FROM: District 55
DATE: July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2015
RECIPIENTS: Clubs
DESCRIPTION: Clubs that conduct a truly exceptional club meeting with a District Officer present will earn a Golden Gavel Meeting banner ribbon, Golden Gavel Meeting pins for the members who participated in the meeting, and recognition at the Fall and Spring Conferences. LIMIT: One award per club

The club must meet all 11 of the following criteria:
  • Members and guests are greeted warmly and enthusiastically.
  • Meeting starts and adjourns on time.
  • 15 or more Toastmaster members must be present (clubs with membership below 20, 75% of members present)
  • At least one non-Toastmaster guest is present.
  • There is applause after every speaker and meeting participant presentation
  • All prepared speeches are MANUAL speeches.
  • Evaluations are both specific and supportive.
  • Participants are positively recognized and ribbons/rotating trophies are awarded.
  • Members wear badges and guests are given name tags.
  • Printed agendas are distributed and followed with three or fewer assignment changes to the agenda.
  • Table Topics are interesting and/or fun - most participants are able to speak the full time period.

    HOW TO CLAIM: Invite your Area Governor to your meeting, stating that the purpose is for him or her to evaluate your meeting as a Golden Gavel meeting. Your Area Governor will determine whether or not all the criteria have been met.

    SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS for the Area Governor: Fill out the Criteria worksheet during the meeting, noting attending club members names on the 2nd page. If all the criteria have been met, fill out and submit the On-line Submission Form.

Distinguished Club

Pacesetter Award: Clubs that achieve five Distinguished Club Program goals prior to December 10th will earn a Pacesetter Banner Ribbon, $50 in Gift Certificates, and recognition at the Winter Toastmasters Leadership Institutes

RECIPIENTS: Clubs
DESCRIPTION: Clubs that achieve five Distinguished Club Program (DCP) goals prior to December 10th will earn a Pacesetter Banner Ribbon, $50 in Toastmasters International Gift Certificates, and recognition at the Winter 2015 Toastmasters Leadership Institutes
HOW TO CLAIM: AUTOMATIC

Golden Compass Award: Clubs that attain all 10 Distinguished Club Program goals and achieve President’s Distinguished Club status (a "10/10 Elite" club) by April 30, 2015 will earn a Golden Compass Banner Ribbon, Golden Compass pins for their Officers, and VIP treatment for their members at the Spring 2015 District Conference.

DEADLINE: April 30, 2015
RECIPIENTS: Clubs
DESCRIPTION: Clubs that attain all 10 Distinguished Club Program goals and achieve President’s Distinguished Club status (a "10/10 Elite" club) by April 30, 2015 will earn a Golden Compass Banner Ribbon and Golden Compass lapel pins for their Officers. Club members will receive VIP treatment at the Spring 2015 District Conference, specifically
  • VIP placement in and recognition at the Parade of Banners
  • VIP seating at the District Speech Contests
NOTE:
1) In order to achieve Distinguished Club status, clubs must have 20 members or a net growth of at least five new members as of the Deadline.
2) For clubs that elect officers semiannually, officers from both periods will receive Golden Compass lapel pins.

Distinguished Club Promotion: Clubs achieving Distinguished Club status or higher by June 15, 2015 will receive Gift Certificates and other prizes that vary depending on the Distinguished level.
