Cora Lonning has been a Toastmaster since 1996. As a founding member of her home club in District 7-Oregon- she had the unique opportunity to be an officer right out of the gate by joining as a founding member of a new club. With that Cora was exposed to the district level of leadership right away. Cora gave her very first District speech as a 2- month old Toastmaster. In 1997 She earned the coveted “Rookie of the Year” award for District 7. This led to an addiction to Toastmasters, taking on all club leadership roles, serving as area and division governor, club mentor, club coach, speech craft coordinator, and completing leadership projects.
By 1998 Cora served as D7 Lt. Governor of Marketing. What an honor and what a ride! This all led to earning two DTMs and significant growth. So many Toastmasters, clubs, events, lessons.
Work, life, and a move to Texas have all tried to interfere with Toastmasters; however, as a learning professional called upon to be in front of groups speaking, training, and facilitating dialogue, Cora understands how important it is to keep her communication skills sharp!
In her profession she is an Organizational Development professional, and has been for over 20 years. She specializes in values-driven cultures, working with executive leadership to implement, promote, and protect the purpose and values of the organization through the development of people and analysis of process. Specifically, in crucial skills based in the emotional intelligence spectrum and critical thinking. Cora has worked with Texas greats such as San Antonio Spurs, Sports, and Entertainment (SS&E), Whataburger, City of San Antonio, Alamo Colleges, Pearson Learning, Credit Human, Christus Children’s Hospital, Air Force Wounded Warriors, HOLT Cat, and many others driven by their values.
Cora has been asked to speak for many groups both locally and abroad. A few of those include Society of Human Resources, both San Antonio and Coastal Bend chapters. Association of Talent Development (SA), Organizational Development Association (SA), Air Force Wounded Warriors, Oregon Health Care Association, International Coaching Federation (SA), Texas Women in Construction, American Association of Medical Assistants, Association of Fund-Raising Professionals (SA), Texas A&M Leadership, Alamo Colleges Leadership. Cora has spoken at several events for TEDxSA and served as a lead organizer.
