Competent Communication
The Competent Communication Manual (often called the basic manual) is designed to give new members a strong start in developing a core set of skills to prepare and present an effective speech.
New members receive this manual in the mail just after they join. The manual is organized into ten separate projects, each with its own individual focus or objective, for example organization, vocal variety, body language, and using visual aids. An extremely effective tool in developing your speaking skills, the Competent Communication Manual never tells you exactly what to do or what to speak about, but rather it provides a set of guidelines for you to think about and follow as you prepare your speech. As an essential part of the Toastmasters program, another Toastmaster will evaluate each speech given, both orally and in writing, providing positive feedback and suggestions for improvement. After each speech, be sure to have your club's Vice President Education provide his/her initials in the back of your manual to indicate project completion. Completion of all 10 projects in the Competent Communication Manual fulfills the requirements for the Competent Communicator (CC) award. After completing all ten projects, provide your club's Vice President Education (VPE) with the page in your manual showing the speech titles and dates given. The VPE can then submit an application to Toastmasters International (TI) for a Competent Communicator (CC) award. Click here to order this manual from Toastmasters International. |
