Taming Tigers: Dynamic Delegation Made Easy
Bart Loeser
8:00 AM
Salon G
Picture
Leadership is almost like walking a tightrope or working with wild animals.  Great leaders are excellent delegators who accomplish great things by motivating others to help with the overwhelming tasks.  It requires balance, trust and knowing where to prod in a way that gets the most positive results.  In this session, you will learn the tips and tricks of effective delegation as a powerful tool to inspire others, and accomplish complicated tasks and projects to develop your team into a dedicated and sustainable work unit. Using 9 points of effective delegation you can communicate powerfully, balance the workload and improve accountability to get the results you need without micromanaging…while building powerful relationships that will ensure future success.

Working with Birds of Different Feathers
Atheria Scott, DTM
8:00 AM
Salon F
Picture
Can a Dove work with an Eagle?  How do you identify different work styles and learn to get along with people who act and think differently than yourself? Whether in your personal or professional life, mastering the ability to flex your style to work better together is critical.  Attendees will complete a quick Work Styles Assessment that will identify their work (“bird”) style. Then they will have an opportunity to interact in a small group to determine how they would handle club members/officers who might be displaying challenging behaviors within the club.

Life is Like a Box of Projects

Project management is something ALL of us do in our daily lives, but we rarely receive formal training about this vital process.  You are the Ringleader of a team of jugglers, whose job is to ensure that no balls get dropped.  You may be planning a family vacation, your company’s annual picnic, your club’s open house, to name a few examples.  In this session, you will learn the basics of project management (including delegation) and how to apply your Toastmasters experience to plan and execute projects like a pro!

Shine the Spotlight on Table Topics
Maritta Terrell

The ability to deliver an impromptu response with a concise and compelling perspective that is sharp, witty and entertaining in only a minute or so should take the center-most important ring of speaking situations.  It impresses and influences the listener and emboldens your aura as an awesome speaker.  Never underestimate the power of such an impact (dynamite comes in small packages).  Honing such skills only comes with practicing well-defined techniques that you will learn in this session.  You will also learn how to help others break out of their fear and even enjoy the opportunity to get up into the spotlight and shine as the speakers they can become.

9:00 AM - Saturday

Think Outside the Tent: Have Great Meetings with those not at the Circus
TK O’Geary, DTM

9:00 AM
Salon G
Picture
“Let’s just meet online” or “let’s just add an online option for meeting participants” is a concept that is becoming more common.  But is it as easy as scheduling a meeting and just connecting?  This session contains tips to ensure your online or online/in person hybrid meeting experience is a positive one. Whether a speaker, a listener, or a tech-support person, these tips of thinking ‘outside the tent’ and ‘inside the box’ will help your next meeting be great.

Mentor Magic: Made as Easy as 1-2-3
Calvin Wong, DTM

9:00 AM

Mentoring is the magic behind building quality clubs.  Whether you are a toastmaster or just a business professional, someone in your lifetime was instrumental in providing you with the knowledge and wisdom that made you into the person you are today.  This breakout session will explore how to become an effective mentor by focusing on 3 simple easy-to-follow principles:  build rapport, foster a consensus action plan, and follow-through.  You will also discover how to develop mentors in your clubs no matter their experience or tenure in the club.

10:00 AM - Saturday

The Storytelling Circus: These ARE your Monkeys and this IS your Story!
Debi Christensen, DTM

10:00 AM
Salon F
Picture
We all take our turn in the center-ring. What happens when the spotlight shines on you?  How well you connect with your audience depends on how well you tell your story.  Come prepared to engage and experience hands-on techniques as you learn how to enhance your storytelling with storythinking – creating a compelling storytelling thread for any public speaking you do.

The 3 Rings…How to Lead your Circus to be the Greatest
Livya Mitchell, DTM

10:00 AM
Lone Star I
Picture
Do you feel like you are driving a car full of clowns along a tightrope while avoiding the knives (deadlines) being thrown at you from all directions?  As a ringmaster, you are responsible for the success of this circus and yet you have little authority to use that whip.  In this session, you will learn to lead strategically and create a plan to build a new legacy of leaders who can grab that next rung and fly toward continued future success.

Demystifying Pathways
Enid Moore-Cranshaw, DTM

10:00 AM
Salon G
Picture
This session will break through the haze surrounding Pathways and help attendees reach a true understanding of the program. This is a fully interactive session, so come prepared with your questions. In addition to information about Pathways, there will be a live demonstration showing you how to navigate the tool, launch and complete a project, find an evaluation form, leave feedback, and more!

Change – It’s Easier than a Three Ring Circus
Harry Taylor

10:00 AM
Salon H
Picture
Freak shows were once the most popular attractions at the circus.  Today’s culture would not tolerate such acts, yet the show must go on.  Change is usually instituted for a positive intent: innovation, creativity, improvement and yet, many of us struggle — leaders and followers — to implement change for the best results. This session is designed to help participants gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and develop insights, strategies and skills that will improve change management.

David Henderson

Picture
David Henderson is a seasoned trial lawyer who joined Ellwanger Law LLP to fight for justice.  David earned his BA in Plan II Honors and his law degree from the University of Texas.  Afterwards, he joined the litigation section of one of Texas’s largest law firms.  Though David enjoyed the intellectual challenges of complex litigation, he wanted to try cases; so, he joined the Special Crimes Division of the District Attorney’s office.

David has tried over 70 jury cases to a verdict, ranging from civil cases to human trafficking to capital murder.  David was so successful in court that the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association (TDCAA) invited him to train other attorneys across the state, including at TDCAA’s semi-annual Trial Skills Course.  From his first presentation, David was one of TDCAA’s most highly rated speakers.  Additionally, during his time at the DA’s Office, David was named local Criminal Justice Member of the Year and received the President’s Award for outstanding service from Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

To improve his courtroom skills, David joined Toastmasters International.  In 2010, he won its World Champion of Public Speaking after competing against over 30,000 contestants from 113 countries.  Though he competed to become a better trial lawyer, David delivered his best speech outside the courtroom when he convinced Dr. Josephine Thinwa to marry him.  She liked it so much that she etched a copy above their mantelpiece.  When not in court, David enjoys teaching Bible classes with Josephine, serving on the Friends of the Dallas Public Library’s board of directors, and barbecuing as often as he can.

It takes a team to put on a conference.
