Education Sessions

Leading with Emotional Intelligence
by Bart Loeser, CC

Sharpening Emotional Intelligence (E.I.) is one of the most powerful influencers of success in one’s personal and professional environment.  Led by professional trainer, Bart Loeser, this class will enable participants to identify and utilize basic E.I. concepts to develop more effective outcomes in emotional situations.

Participants will learn to:
  • List the impacts of poorly managed emotions
  • Identify types and degrees of emotion responses
  • Understand emotional triggers and how to manage them more effectively
  • Maximize behaviors that trigger positive responses and desired results
Hey Listen Up! A Perspective on Effective Listening
by Ken Estes, DTM

What is listening and what is effective listening?  Why is listening such a problem? What does it take to be an effective listener? Listening is a subset of communication between individuals, groups, etc. You have the communicator (sender) and the listener (receiver). It is the receiver this presentation will focus on. Ken will define listening and effective listening and note the differences.

What causes problems with effective listening? We will discuss the issues that cause effective listening to fail. What does it take for the individual to be the effective listener? Ken will provide some interaction with the audience on techniques to be an effective listener.

How to Write a Speech in 20 Minutes
by Michael Johnson, DTM

Do you struggle with identifying the topic and writing that next speech? If so, you’re not alone. If you attend this session you will learn a 12-step process to help you identify a topic and write the speech in only 20 minutes.  Even if you only use a couple of the steps, you will find it easier to get through that next speech project. This session is targeted toward every Toastmaster independent of experience.
SHOW, DON'T TELL. The Heart of Storytelling
by Mo McMorrow, CC

How can some people enthrall an audience while talking about a stale muffin while another will bore them silly talking about a helicopter crash? One of the biggest differences is the art of “showing” not “telling”.

This fun workshop gets to the heart of storytelling using all your senses, including your sense of humor! You will also walk away with a powerful writing tool that will improve your writing from day one with only ten minutes a day!
The One Thing
by Kay McManus, DTM
and Don Hobbs

Did you ever want to know what that One Thing is that you can do that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary.  Don Hobbs and Kay McManus will present information and examples that will assist you, organizations, relationships, management teams, etc, to find that focusing question and thus create a domino run.  The One Thing, written by Gary Keller, Chairman of the Board and Cofounder of Keller Williams Realty, is listed on the New York Times best seller list.
How to Connect with your Audience
by Juan Castaneda, ACB

What’s the goal of speaking? Why do you give speeches?

The goal of speaking is to connect with people, to touch people, to make them feel something.

Drawing from examples of some of the best speeches of all time (Martin Luther King, Winston Churchill), we’ll analyze why they were great and why they connected with their audience.
It's the Gun Lap
by PDG Doug Kelly, DTM

In every Olympic race, greater than 400 meters, a gun is fired to acknowledge the competitors have entered the final lap of the race. The final lap is called “The Gun Lap.”

Our Toastmasters year is divided into two stages (laps). The first lap is July through December and the final lap (Gun Lap) is January through June each year. Our performance during the first lap will determine how we must plan and execute the Gun Lap.

You will leave this seminar knowing exactly how to lead with heart and have your club succeed.
The Five Leadership Languages
by Kyle Mitchell, DTM

Do you spend more time with your “work family” than with your real family?  Need some relationship advice for those professional relationships, not just the personal ones? Maybe, it’s time for some counseling…Leadership Counseling! Every day we leaders have to deal with colleagues, subordinates, and superiors who are just like us and have a heart (...mostly).  Come learn how to better speak and understand everyone’s specific “Leadership Language”.

During this session you will learn how to apply the principles of the relationship book, The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman, to leadership.
