Message from Public Relations Officer Dwayne Windham

I know “it’s going to be such an exciting year!” may seem cliché, but from a Public Relations perspective – there is no other way to say it. The 2011-2012 term will be a very exciting year! From a Global Brand Refresh set to launch on August 17th, to a visit from the President of Toastmasters International at this year’s Fall Conference, to a booth at The Austin Women’s Conference and the 2011 Texas Book Festival – we have an immense amount to look forward to and prepare for!
My professional background is a blend of the IT support industry along with communications. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of Texas while working as a phone support technician for Dell support. I’ve worked with Dell since 1998 and have a long set of various technical certifications from Microsoft, ITIL, Comptia, and other vendors.
My goal this year is for us to be focused and effective with our public relations and outreach. I personally plan to help us utilize technology for what it does well, while remembering that a handshake and a warm smile at a conference still opens many doors. With some creative ways of looking at problems, a willingness to ask questions, and a love for what this organization does – I look forward to helping all of you share the joy of Toastmasters with our community.
