This weekend was full of laughter, fellowship, education and excitement at the 2015 District 55 Fall Conference at the Wyndham Garden hotel in Austin! Headlining our event was the presence of the Toastmasters International President-Elect, Mike Storkey, DTM and his wife, Lesley Storkey, DTM.
Beginning on Friday, November 13th, District members were able to mix and mingle with each other while they had their pick of 3 valuable educational sessions. After that, we enjoyed a delicious meal and were witness to DTM Lesley Storkey's very first keynote presentation! She presented on how important it is to have H.E.A.R.T. when it comes to being a Toastmaster. After her presentation we were regaled with the Table Topics Contest.
A night filled with incredible International Speeches resulted in one District 55 Toastmaster being awarded the title of District Champion. Mike Carr, CTM delivered his speech titled "Beautiful" to a packed house of his fellow Toastmasters. He made them laugh and he made them cry with his poignant message about his daughter, and he made all of those from his home club of Austin Toastmasters shout for joy when we was crowned the District Champ.
Finishing in second place was Jacob Leffler from Get Up 'N Go Toastmasters (Austin, TX) with his speech titled "It's A Small World After All".
The third place finisher was Jim Lowery from Universal City (San Antonio, TX) with his speech titled "The Long Gravel Road".
Congratulations to all of our competitors- District 55 will certainly be well-represented at the International Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio scheduled for August 24-27, 2013.
