Get up 'n Go Toastmasters
Toastmaster: Lee R. (Pete) Maulding, CTM
Native Austinite, born in the original Seton Hospital, on 26th Street (some UT Condos are there, now).
Graduated from the REAL Austin High School (12th St. & Rio Grande), now a campus of Austin Community College.
Attended The University of Texas (before they added "at Austin").
Met Pam on December 21, 1968, at Yaring's Department Store, North Loop at Burnet Rd. (now a modern strip mall).
Married her on May 14, 1972 at St. Luke's on the Lake (still there, thank GOD) !
Spent 17 years designing subdivisions in Austin. Experienced to many "Boom - Bust" cycles and made a career change in 1985 (just before the Big Bust).
Joined Pam in Get up 'n Go Toastmasters, September of 1985. Prior to joining Toastmasters, I was so afraid of talking to a group of people, that I would not even attend any of the Toastmasters meetings (except the Annual Christmas Meeting), even when Pam was going to be speaking, because I knew that they were going to ask me to stand up and give some comments about the meeting, at the end ! I needed so much help, I joined two Toastmasters Clubs. Two years later, I found myself volunteering at Church, to speak to a congregation of 2,700 Baptists, in three services, about stewardship and how they needed to loosen up their purse strings! A real challenge, but with my Toastmasters training, it was easy!!
I continue to attend Get up 'n Go Toastmasters, in order that I may be a mentor to some, while continuing to learn from others.
