Toastmasters Speech Contests are events that showcase the talents of both members who compete and members who organize and support the events. Many wonderful benefits accrue to those that participate
- Contestants are afforded a wonderful opportunity to improve their skills in preparing and delivering a speech in a competitive environment
- Organizers are given an educational opportunity in event planning, project management and project teams
- Members not competing are provided the opportunity to learn by observing speakers who have benefited from their Toastmasters training
- Clubs and club members have the opportunity to showcase their talented speakers to family members and guests
- The audience is provided an interesting educational program, entertainment, and FUN!
Contests are held twice a year, once in the Fall and once in the Spring. Up to two contests are held at one time, yielding a maximum of four contests per year.
- Each of these contests begins with the Club Contest
- Club winners compete at the Area Contest (approximately five competitors)
- Area winners go on to the Division Contest (approximately five competitors)
- Division winners compete at the District Contest held in conjunction with the District Conference (six competitors per contest in District 55)
- The winner of the District 55 International Speech Contest held in the Spring will go on to a Semi-Final Contest on a Thursday evening in conjunction with the Interational Convention
- Semi-Final Contest winners will compete in THE International Contest two days later with a new speech at the Convention

The Fall Contest season will run from August to November. Club contests will be held in August, Area Contests in September, and Division Contests in October. The District contests will be held at the Fall, 2010 Conference the weekend of November 5-6 in Lakeway on Lake Travis west of Austin.
The Spring Contest season will run from February to May. Club contests will be held in February, Area Contests in March, and Division Contests in April. The District contests will be held at the Spring 2011 Conference, dates and venue are to be determined.
The Humorous Speech Contest, the Table Topics Contest, and the Evaluation Contest will all conclude at the District Level. The International Speech Contest winner for District 55 will compete in a semi-final contest at the International Convention in August. Winners of the semi-final contests will advance to THE International Speech Contest with a NEW speech two days later at the same Convention.
