Banner Raid Rules & Procedures

The objective of a Banner Raid is to provide a FUN experience for both clubs involved. Visiting Club Members often take many great ideas back to their home clubs, which in turn promotes healthy, strong, creative Toastmasters clubs throughout our District. Banner raids are designed to cross-pollinate ideas and activities across Clubs. Banner raids have specific rules designed to encourage cooperation and avoid potential disruptions and bad feelings across Clubs. Here’s how it works:

The Raiding Club should contact the Target Club and express its intentions. Contact is typically between Presidents. The Raiding Club requests a “raid” on the Target Club on the Target Club's turf and schedule. The Target Club should attempt to cooperate, but there may be valid reasons to refuse the raid. The Raiding Club must honor the Target Club's intention and pick another club to raid.

To successfully raid the banner, the Raiding Club needs at least five club members that are not members of the Target Club that will be present for the entire period of the Target Club’s meeting. In addition, make every effort to perform at least two duties by members of the Raiding Club (pre-arrange this). Try to be as early as possible.

If you succeed, report the event to the Lieutenant Governor of Marketing (Margaret Cathey lgm@tmd55.org). I need word from both Presidents, and the duties performed by the Raiding Club. A photo is a must, so I can post it on the District website; and it’s also a great way to prove that the raid took place. The Raiding Club may (temporarily) confiscate the Target Club's banner and display it at their meeting as a trophy (ask permission first).

Ok, so now you have the Target Club's banner, now what?

At each District 55 Conference I will present the President of each successful Raiding Club with a Banner Raid Ribbon.

If the Target Club can perform a return raid (same rules), they can retrieve their banner (and report it and obtain a Banner Raid Ribbon). If they can get ten members to return the raid, they can not only retrieve their banner, but raid the Raiding Club's banner (and get two ribbons)! What fun!

But what if the raided club cannot muster a return raid? The Raiding Club needs to return the Target Club's banner within four weeks after a raid.

What if the Target Club doesn’t have a banner? Well, just think of the fun you’ll still have by visiting another club and gaining new ideas to bring back to your club.

Woe to the Club that loses another Club’s banner. They will buy the Club a new banner.
